We asked two experts for their tips.
Dr. Stephen Hsieh, M.D., a clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, says that if you’re not going to lose fat, then you can’t be concerned about calorie counting.
He says that most people should consume about one-fourth of their daily calories from protein, which is what your body needs to burn calories.
Dr. Hsieb says you can eat one-third of your calories from vegetables and fruit and one-half of your daily calories as fat.
If you’re overweight, you should consume a third of your calorie intake from fat and two-thirds of your total calories from carbohydrates.
When it comes to protein, Hsiec recommends the protein rich snacks like meat and cheese and eggs.
For example, Hsiess recommends the macaroni and cheese sandwich.
He also says you should get plenty of fish, such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, and trout.
He recommends eating two servings of nuts or seeds every day and about half a cup of fruits and vegetables.
