People in the UK are eating about four times as much as the rest of the world in total calories, according to a new study.
The findings, from a new report from the University of California, Irvine, suggest the UK is also the world’s biggest eater of fruit and vegetables.
The study, which surveyed 1,800 adults in 18 countries, found the average Briton is consuming roughly 1,000 calories a day in snacks, and 1,200 calories a week for lunch.
However, this number is dwarfed by the countries with the most obese people in the study, and in the U.S., Australia and Canada.
People in Australia are eating more than 2,400 calories a year in snacks and breakfast, while Canadians in New Zealand are eating nearly 2,600 calories a month.
The report also found that Americans are the heaviest eaters, with Americans eating 2,906 calories a meal and Canadians eating 1,927.
That’s about three times as many calories as the average American eats a day, the report found.
It’s not just the US where Americans are eating the most, though.
Americans in Germany are eating a little less than 1,300 calories a night, while Germans in the Netherlands are eating roughly 2,000 a week.
In Italy, Italians are eating around 1,400 a day and people in Spain are eating over 2,100.
It may not sound like much, but Americans are actually eating more calories than the rest, as the United Kingdom is second with just under 1,600.
“It seems that Americans have become the world leader in consuming more calories per capita than the other major economies,” study author Dr. Paul Trombly, a research associate at UC Irvine, told ABC News.
Tromble and his co-authors believe Americans are just as bad off as their peers in terms of eating disorders, according a new analysis of data from the World Health Organization.
In 2016, there were more than 7,000 cases of eating disorder in the United States, according the CDC.
While the number of cases may not seem like much in comparison to other countries, Trombie and his colleagues say Americans are still the biggest outlier when it comes to the prevalence of eating-disorders.
In the United Arab Emirates, there are currently over 8,000 people living with eating disorders.
In India, there is currently more than 4,000, according data from National Health Surveys.
“In India, the most severe cases of severe eating disorder can be found in the north, with prevalence rates of more than 50 percent,” the researchers said.
“The high prevalence of severe food-related eating disorder also suggests that eating disorders are prevalent among both males and females.”
